The 13 × 100 mm tube holds up to 6.0 mL of blood (draw volume) and uses a red Hemogard™ rubber stopper (color‐coded red). It contains an interior coating of silicone and micronized silica (clot activator). In practice, after venipuncture the tube is gently inverted (to mix the clot‐activator additive), allowed to clot, then centrifuged to separate serum. BD recommends spinning non-gel serum tubes at ≤1300 × g for about 10 minutes.
