Hyalgan is a solution that contains a natural substance called hyaluronate. Hyaluronate is normally found in the fluid that lubricates and cushions your knee joint. Hyalgan is injected into your knee to relieve pain due to osteoarthritis.

Hyalgan is supplied as a sterile, non-pyrogenic solution in 2 mL vials or 2 mL pre-filled syringes.

Dosage / Direction for Use:
Knee and Hip Osteoarthritis: The contents of one vial (20 mg/2 mL) or prefilled syringe (20 mg/2 mL) to be injected into the affected joint once a week for a total of three to five injections, using a standard technique. No adjustment of dose is required in elderly patients. This can be repeated at not less than 6 monthly intervals.
Ankle Osteoarthritis: Inject one milliliter of 20 mg/2 mL solution from the vial or prefilled syringe into the affected joint once weekly for a total of five injections, using a standard technique. No adjustment of dose is required in elderly patients. This can be repeated at not less than 6 monthly intervals.
Shoulder Osteoarthritis: Inject the contents of one vial or prefilled syringe (20 mg/2 ml) into the affected joint with a three-day interval between each injection for a total of three injections, using a standard technique. No adjustment of dose is required in elderly patients.
Children: At present there is not enough evidence to recommend a dosage regimen for use in children.
