It is a 0.9% solution of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, magnesium chloride, and calcium chloride in water for injection. The solution provides isotonic electrolyte replacement. The pH is 7.4. The osmolarity is 308 mOsmol/liter (calc).

PLASMA-LYTE A Injection pH 7.4 (Multiple Electrolytes Injection, Type 1, USP) is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to the product.
