BAQSIMI is an emergency nasal spray used to treat very low blood sugar (severe hypoglycemia) in people with diabetes ages 4 years and above. Glucagon injection is an emergency medicine used to treat severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in diabetes patients treated with insulin who have passed out or cannot take some form of sugar by mouth. Do not use BAQSIMI if: you have a tumor in the gland on top of your kidneys (adrenal gland) called pheochromocytoma.

Glucagon is a naturally occurring hormone that works by telling your liver to bring blood sugar back up. The glucagon in BAQSIMI is the same active ingredient that has been around for decades. In a clinical study, BAQSIMI was shown to work as well as glucagon for injection to raise blood sugar in adults.

In trials, 100% of people given Baqsimi achieved treatment success, which was defined as an increase in blood glucose levels within 30 minutes to ≥70 mg/dL or an increase of ≥20 mg/dL from the lowest glucose level reported at the time of severe hypoglycemia.
