How does  Bacitracin with Zinc Ointment work?

Bacitracin with Zinc ointment is a combination topical medication containing the antibiotic bacitracin and the mineral zinc. It works by killing or slowing the growth of bacteria and preventing infection.

Bacitracin works by binding to and inhibiting the production of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus and Streptococcus species.

Zinc, on the other hand, has both antibacterial and wound healing properties. It helps to increase the permeability of bacterial cell membranes, making them more susceptible to the action of bacitracin. Zinc also promotes cell growth and helps with wound healing by increasing the production of collagen and promoting the formation of new blood vessels.

Together, bacitracin and zinc work to prevent and treat bacterial infections on the skin, including cuts, scrapes, and minor burns. The ointment also helps to soothe and protect the skin, creating a barrier that helps to prevent further infection and irritation.

Active Ingredient: Bacitracin Zinc – 500 units

Directions:

1. Clean the affected area.
2. Apply a small amount of the product (an amount equal to the surface area of the tip of a finger) on the area 1 to 3 times daily.
3. May be covered with a sterile bandage.
