Description

Novolin 70/30 is a prescription insulin product used to manage blood glucose levels in individuals with diabetes mellitus. It is a pre-mixed formulation containing both intermediate-acting and short-acting insulins. 


Composition:

Insulin Isophane (NPH): Intermediate-acting insulin.
Insulin Regular: Short-acting insulin.
Ratio: 70% NPH insulin and 30% regular insulin.

Concentration: 100 units/mL.
Packaging: Vial Size: 10 mL multiple-dose vial.

Administration:

  • Route of Administration: Subcutaneous injection.
  • Frequency: Typically administered once or twice daily, within about 30 minutes before meals, but the regimen should be individualized based on the patient’s metabolic needs, blood glucose monitoring results, and glycemic goals.

Indications:

Management of blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus (both type 1 and type 2).

Onset and Duration:

  • Onset of Action: Approximately 30 minutes after injection.
  • Peak Effect: Generally occurs between 2 to 12 hours after injection.
  • Duration of Action: Lasts up to 24 hours.

Storage:

  • Store in a refrigerator at 2°C–8°C (36°F–46°F) before opening.
  • After initial use, the vial can be kept at room temperature (below 30°C or 86°F) and should be used within 42 days.

Precautions:

  • Do not use during episodes of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar).
  • Monitor blood glucose regularly to prevent hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) or hypoglycemia.
  • Caution should be exercised when transferring patients from other insulin products due to dosing
