Description

Nystatin Antifungal Ointment is a topical cream or ointment used to treat fungal infections of the skin. Nystatin is a polyene antifungal agent that binds to sterols in the fungal cell membrane, disrupting the cell membrane and leading to cell death. Nystatin is effective against a wide range of fungi, including Candida albicans. Nystatin is available as a cream, ointment, or powder, and is most commonly used to treat yeast infections of the skin, mouth, or vagina.

Directions:

  • Nystatin skin ointment or cream usually is used several times a day for skin infections. Wash the affected area thoroughly. Apply a small amount of cream or ointment and gently and thoroughly massage it into your skin. If you use this medication on your face, keep it out of your eyes

Although a topical corticosteroid is sometimes used to help relieve the itching, this should be avoided as much as possible. Steroids are never used as the only treatment in ringworm infections, as their use may worsen the infection and make the fungus more likely to spread into the hair follicles.
