Pneumovax 23 (Pneumococcal Vaccine Polyvalent) Vaccine 0.5 mL is a vaccine that helps protect adults against diseases caused by pneumococcal bacteria, including pneumonia, meningitis, and blood infections. Pneumococcal bacteria can also cause ear and sinus infections. Pneumococcal bacteria are common and can cause serious illness in adults of all ages.

Pneumococcal Vaccine Polyvalent (Pneumovax 23) is a vaccine used to prevent infection by the pneumococcus bacteria. It can be given in 3 ways; 1) by injection into a muscle, 2) more rarely, by directly into a blood vessel (intravenous), or 3) using a special inhaled device. Treatment given most often is a shot pushed under the skin (subcutaneous) in the upper arm or thigh muscle. It can also be given as an injection into spinal fluid through a process called intrathecal administration,administrated through a device called Spherovax II 26 Gauge needles for intradermal, muscular and subcutaneous subcutaneous administration.
