Cefuroxime Axetil 250 mg Tablets is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat infections caused by staphylococci (Staph), group B streptocococci, H. influenzae (type A and B), E coli, Enterobacter, Salmonella, and Klebsiella. Treatment of with susceptible infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, otitis media, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue, bone and joint, middle ear infections, tonsillitis, throat infections, laryngitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, urinary tract infections, sinus infections, throat infections, Early Lyme disease, and gonorrhea.
Mechanism of Action: Inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis by binding to one or more of the penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) which in turn inhibits the final transpeptidation step of peptioglycan synthesis in bacteria cell walls, thus inhibiting cell wall biosynthesis, Bacteria eventually lyse due to ongoing activity of cell wall autolytic enzymes (autolysins and murein hydrolases) while cell wall assembly is arrested.
